The Mayhurst Inn is a beautifully restored plantation home dating back to 1859. The quintessential Central Virginia getaway, the Mayhurst Inn allows its guests to step back in time and experience the luxury, romance, and charm of the antebellum South without sacrificing modern amenities like free WIFI, private baths, and central air and heat. The property is located on 37 rolling acres in the lovely Virginia Piedmont, making for one of the most stunning backdrops in the region. Take a stroll through the grounds and you’ll find lily ponds, old growth trees, manicured lawns, and multiple exquisite gardens.

Everyone loves a property with a story, and the Mayhurst Inn offers exactly that. The Inn boasts a rich and fascinating history of its own. The Mayhurst Inn was constructed just two years before the Civil War began. Built in the glamorous Italianate style, many praised it as the most fashionable home in Orange County at the time. The mansion was owned by Colonel John Willis, the great nephew of President James Madison, and served mainly as a farm producing bountiful harvests and raising a variety of livestock. When the Civil War roiled through the South, the Mayhurst Inn played a pivotal role. General Stonewall Jackson spent the night at the home in 1962 and in the winter of 1963-1964, 18,000 Confederate troops pitched their tents on the property grounds. General Hill even chose to baptize his daughter on these grounds and the ceremony was attended by General Lee. For a more detailed account of the property’s history, click here.
